Las Palmas Cafe brings the heritage of Ybor City with a blend of "Old World" flavors to New Tampa. It's a taste of history - created only in Tampa where Cuban, Greek, and Italian immigrants lived in Ybor City neighborhoods side-by-side, blending their cultures as well as their cooking.
Ropa Vieja
Immerse yourself in the culture as menu items are listed in Spanish with the English translation and explanations of each dish printed below. A Cuban heritage signature dish is the sweet and spicy Ropa Vieja "Old Clothes," served as an entre or sandwich on fresh Cuban bread. It's actually tender shredded flank steak slowly simmered in a burgundy tomato sauce.
House Specialties
House specialties include the original Ybor City Deviled Crab, Beef Empanada (pastry shell stuffed with fresh made Picadillo), and a customer favorite, Lechon Asado: Cuban-style roasted pork marinated in Las Palmas' own Mojo sauce, slow-cooked until it is fork tender. Yum! A breaded Palomilla Steak Sandwich is the 2nd best seller, topped only by Tampa's favorite Cuban Sandwich.
Master Chef Todd Rudge
Family traditions are a way of life to owners Bonnie and Todd Rudge. Todd has 30 years of executive chef experience cooking around the world, and follows the Ybor City ethnic blended dishes while creating his own flavored sauces. For instance, Todd's Russian Sauce over a Spanish Whitefish Filet (Merluza a la Rusa) was so delicious, that one customer found he had eaten all his wife's entre as he "sampled it" and had to order another one.
The Freshest Cuban Bread
Las Palmas uses the freshest Cuban Bread that has evolved from the blended "Old World" baking of the early Ybor residents. It's specific flavor and texture are found only in Tampa, making the Las Palmas sandwiches served on Cuban bread truly Tampa originals!
Dine In or Carry Out
Both Bonnie and their daughter, Jennifer, work the counter and handle carry-out orders: Call 813-907-1333 for easy pick-up. Ask for a carry-out menu the next time you dine at Las Palmas.
Family Meal Deals
But if you're really in a hurry, have no time to cook or a house full of company, then bring home everyone's favorite Spanish dish with the Las Palmas "Family Meal Deals" by calling 45 minutes in advance: 813-907-1333. All eight choice meals like the always popular Arroz con Pollo (Yellow Rice and Chicken) or Steak Milanesa serve 4 people, including rice, tossed salad or black beans, and fresh Cuban bread. The microwavable containers are nice enough to put on the table for easy family-style dinners.
Have Las Palmas Do Your Catering
Las Palmas offers a Catering Menu that will really put your party "on the map" or make a lasting impression at work. Your favorite entres are served with fresh Cuban bread. Side dishes include vegetables, Yucca, Fried Plantains and Yellow or White Rice. Tossed Salad or Las Palmas specialty Cafe Salads are also available for groups. Caldo Gallego, Spanish Bean, and Black Bean Soups are priced by the quart while party platters of appetizers and sandwich trays include 25-30 pieces each. These range from Mini Cuban Sandwiches, Deviled Crabs, Stuffed Potatoes, to Ham or Cheese Croquettes and Fried Green Plantains. Discuss your catering needs with Bonnie or Jennifer, at least 48 hours in advance to place an order.
Children's Meals
On the light side, a smaller portioned Children's Menu of kids' favorites includes a small soft drink and a choice of 1 side dish.
Award Winning Homemade Sangria
For the adults, beverages range from the Award Winning Homemade Sangria, domestic or imported bottled beer, and Cafe con Leche (1/2 espresso coffee with 1/2 steamed milk). A very sweet ending is a piece of traditional caramel flavored Flan, N.Y. Style Cheese Cake With Strawberries and seasonal specialties such as their famous Pumpkin Bread Pudding With Warm Brandy Sauce.
Location and Hours
Las Palmas Cafe is conveniently located in the Pebble Creek Collection at 19651 Bruce B. Downs Blvd. Enjoy family-friendly dining every Mon - Thurs and Sat from 11am to 8pm and every Friday from 11am to 8:30pm. The cozy tables nestled in sight of the busy serving counter make you feel like you're part of the Las Palmas family! In fact, you might grow a little nostalgic with the delicious smells that hold memories of Grandma's kitchen! Because head chef and owner Todd Rudge takes such a personal "hands on" approach with every aspect of the restaurant and the cooking, he needed at least one day's rest. So, Las Palmas is closed on Sundays (sorry). But Monday is just around the corner, and so is Las Palmas Cafe.
